37What about yoga postures? Do they have anything to do with the TM technique?Certainly it is useful and necessary to move the body and take care of it, and yoga postures (asanas) are an ancient and long-standing method to bring balance to the physiology. But the foundation of it all is consciousness. TM is the direct way to settle down from the active, engaged level of consciousness to the quietest, most integrated level of our own consciousness so that our inner awareness can organize our body to work well and be healthy. Doing Maharishi Yoga Asanas as preparation for TM brings back the true value of yoga asanas%u2014settled awareness gently interacting with the body to grow flexibility, integration, and strength. Yoga asanas done from that simple, self-referral level can be useful and effective. This is the fulfillment of yoga%u2014to unify mind and body.
