                                    43The TM technique is a standardized form of meditation that is taught the same way by certified TM teachers around the world. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who brought TM to the world, worked and studied with his teacher for more than 12 years, and then traveled around the world many times teaching what he had learned. The TM program is part of a living tradition spanning thousands of years, unlike many other eyes-closed practices which may have been invented only recently, and may even be experimental and have limited or very different results. For any such practice to survive the test of centuries, it must have a well-established track record.All over the world, TM is taught and practiced in the same way, for a similar amount of time, at recommended times of the day. All of the many hundreds of TM studies are actually on the exact same meditation procedure, which is what you will learn from a certified TM teacher anywhere in the world.Self-transcending?%u201cSelf-transcending%u201d refers to the effortlessness of TM. In TM, one just starts the process, and then the natural functioning of the mind and body takes over.
