111A study of executives and workers in the automotive industry, using the Center for Management Research Questionnaire (CMRQ), found that after three months of regular practice of the Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique, participants showed increased professional and personal satisfaction, in comparison to controls from the same work sites. (Reference 1)A related study found that TM signifi cantly increases emotional intelligence and reduces perceived stress in administrators working in the central offi ces of the San Francisco Unifi ed School District who were interested as part of a workplace wellness program. Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to perceive emotions in oneself and others, and to understand, regulate, and use such information in productive ways that lead to successful problem solving and progress of the organization as a whole toward its goals. This study also found signifi cant improvements in general mood, stress management, adaptability, and intrapersonal awareness. Importantly, compliance with TM practice was high (93%). (Reference 2)These fi ndings indicate effectiveness of implementing the TM program as a workplace wellness program to improve emotional intelligence and reduce perceived stress in employees. 0.000.100.200.300.400.500.600.700.80Change Score onCMRQQuestionnaireControls TMp = .03Increased Satisfaction WithProfessional and Personal Lifetm-015MORE SATISFIED WITH LIFEReference 1: Alexander, C.
