(Reference 1)A related study of school administrators found that in four months, those who learned TM signifi cantly increased in self-regard, emotional self-awareness, interpersonal relationships, stress tolerance, optimism, happiness, and self-actualization compared to a control group waiting to learn. (Reference 2) These results are in accord with a meta-analysis of 42 studies that found TM to increase self-actualization more than other meditation and relaxation techniques. (Reference 3) Another meta-analysis of 18 studies on 772 subjects found TM has signifi cantly larger effects than mindfulness or other meditation techniques on reducing negative emotions, trait anxiety, and neuroticism, and on increasing self-realization.
