126Hmmm. When I get good rest, I do feel more stable, more myself. And I can adapt to changes more easily . . .Yes! TM develops five fundamentals necessary for progress and success in life: stability, adaptability, integration, purification, and growth.TM develops stability because during TM both the mind and body become very settled and stable. For example, our thoughts settle down and our heart rate and breathing slow down. This stability during TM is the ideal preparation for dynamic activity. Stability ensures that from one day to the next we continue to express the values we cherish and to uphold the responsibilities we have undertaken. To understand how the TM program works in life, we can think of pulling an arrow back on the bow before shooting it. The arrow is in a state of complete silence and stability when pulled back and resting on the bow. When we let go of the arrow, it shoots forward with great force. Like that, our formula for success in life is to meditate, and then act with great precision and power.
