                                    125What are you talking about, different kinds of rest? Rest is rest, isn%u2019t it? Actually, scientists have long known there are different kinds of rest. For example, there are several levels of sleep. The deepest part of sleep has been found to be the most healing part.In fact, scientists have discovered that the rest gained during TM is quite different from the rest gained during sleep or dreaming. For one thing, we are awake and aware during TM, but not during sleep. That%u2019s why it%u2019s called restful alertness.More importantly, during TM all the different repair mechanisms in the body work together more effectively, reflecting increased coherence throughout the body. This coherent rest is why TM is uniquely healing%u2014uniquely effective for repairing stress and fatigue. The main function of rest is healing the body, and the different systems of the body are like different players on the healing team. When the players are alert and in good communication with each other, they play better, and more healing takes place.
