At %u201cbaseline%u201d (before learning TM), participants completed an online Profi le of Mood States questionnaire (POMS). A subset (N=79) also had their EEG recorded to calculate Brain Integration Scale (BIS) scores, which measure progress toward Cosmic Consciousness (Transcendental Consciousness along with activity). The POMS and EEG/BIS recordings were repeated after four months (%u201cpost-test%u201d).The left-hand chart shows a signifi cant increase in BIS scores in the EEG after only four months of TM, indicating growth in the brain physiology of Cosmic Consciousness (CC), which is also found in the brain physiology of the most successful members of society. The right-hand bar chart shows a signifi cant decrease on the POMS Total Mood Disturbance scale, and on the anxiety, anger, depression, fatigue, and confusion subscales, along with a signifi cant increase on the POMS vigor subscale.Rising scores in the BIS, with greater vigor and decreased anxiety, anger, depression, and confusion, confi rm that these changes in how the brain is working underlie the greater energy and effectiveness in life experienced with growth of CC.The practical value of growth toward CC is that action no longer arises from narrow self-interest, fears, and pre-judgments (prejudices). In CC, action arises from a more holistic appreciation of the situation, because Transcendental Consciousness is the home of all the laws of nature. Action is more vigorous and productive because inner resistance and confusion no longer interfere with decision-making and action. The brain waits for all relevant information before it acts, and then coordinates more skills and capabilities to accomplish any particular task. Compliance with TM practice was high (93%), indicating that the administrators and staff enjoyed their TM program.Reference: Travis, F., Valosek, L., Konrad, A., Link, J., Salerno, J., Scheller, R., & Nidich, S.
