247Why that part of the brain? The frontal cortex is the executive part of the brain. It%u2019s the boss. It computes what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. Other areas of the brain do different jobs. Some hold facts or memories. Others regulate emotions. Others think and reason. But the frontal cortex takes it all in and puts it together. Why is it so important for both halves of the brain to work together? The brain has many ways of representing the world. The left hemisphere is oriented toward close focus, analysis, discrimination, working with words and ideas. The right hemisphere is visual. It enjoys a pictorial, holistic grasp of the world. Working together, the two sides of the brain can serve all the needs of a balanced life. The hemispheres do different things, and when they work together it%u2019s better. This is what we see in people enjoying signs of Cosmic Consciousness.Besides unifying all our experience, what else does the frontal cortex do?This is the area of the brain where one%u2019s self-image is created. The frontal cortex is where opinions, philosophies, religions, and worldviews are born. The frontal cortex creates our sense of who we are and what the world is like for us.
