259How are enlightenment and invincibility connected? We can only be free from harm if we act in a way that doesn%u2019t create harm. Our world is so huge and complex that we can%u2019t always know how to think and act in a way that takes care of our needs while nourishing others, and nature as a whole. We need to develop higher states of consciousness to establish our minds and hearts on the most silent, holistic level of awareness. A unenlightened mind can%u2019t see the full effect of actions, and can%u2019t calculate for the good of the whole. Something seems like a good idea, and we go ahead and do it, and only later do we see the harm it caused. When awareness is broad and rooted in the experience of the whole, then it automatically organizes for the good of the whole. Limited awareness can only take care of small areas of progress, and often creates unintended, unforeseen, and unfortunate side effects.Enlightenment is needed if people are to think and act in a way that is good for themselves and also for others. Enlightenment is the basis of invincibility; without enlightenment, invincibility is only a dream. As human beings, we are capable of creating all good everywhere, for ourselves and others. And the way to get better at this is to transcend twice a day. TM teaches us this most basic human ability.
