286But the effects of these drugs seem to wear off in a few hours, or at most a few days. Why wait fifteen days?This is a physiological consideration, not a moral one. Sometimes, if drugs are in the system, they can interfere with clarity of mind and the best learning experience.What about aspirin, or prescription drugs?It%u2019s not necessary to stop taking aspirin and other %u201cover the counter%u201d medicines. Also, we don%u2019t interfere with the doctor%u2019s prescriptions%u2014if a doctor prescribes some drug, it%u2019s important for maintaining health.Any other recommendations?For 24 hours before your course, please don%u2019t drink alcoholic beverages.It%u2019s also a good idea not to eat a heavy meal just prior to your personal instruction (but it%u2019s fine to have something light). Also, go light on caffeine.Food, alcohol, and caffeine all tend to increase activity in the mind and body, which is the opposite effect of TM. Following these guidelines will set you up for success on your first day, and for your TM course.What about cigarettes?Tobacco doesn%u2019t seem to interfere with learning TM.
